PowerTeam Services, our operating companies, and employees have a continued focus on occupational safety and training. This training is of the utmost importance to keep our employees, customers and the public safe. In support of our safety culture, we have training facilities at our company sites located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
These facilities play an important role in keeping our employees safe as they perform their daily work with high voltage electricity, excavating, natural gas, and traffic safety. We are proud to highlight two of these facilities here as well as the apprentice linemen training program.
Gas Training Facility
The SEC gas training center in Conyers, Georgia is designed and sized to be a small neighborhood simulated with eight miniature homes, complete with electric and gas service to each home that allows for training employees in the most common areas of gas distribution work.
Training consists of various aspects of natural gas service-related operations including utility protection during excavation, meter installation and pipeline tapping. Every part of the facility serves as a useful training ground. For example, the streets in the facility are used for traffic control and flagger training while the open areas are utilized for training in excavation, confined space safety, and new CDL training that includes driving skills assessment using commercial vehicles.
Electric Training Facility
The Volt Power outdoor training center is located on two acres of land in Harlingen, Texas with an additional two acres ready for expansion. This site is utilized for training in overhead lines, underground pad-mount transformers, meters, and rigging equipment. The training ground serves as the primary training ground for the company’s apprenticeship program and other related training programs. Volt Power also partners with a local electric co-op by allowing their employees to train at the center.
